Question 1

Which Crit'Air sticker does a used Ford Focus get?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the fuel and the Euro standard on the carte grise. A petrol Focus registered from 2011 usually rates Crit'Air 1, while a diesel never does better than Crit'Air 2, which matters in low-emission zones.

Question 2

Is the Focus 1.0 EcoBoost engine reliable?

Accepted Answer

The three-cylinder is lively and economical, but its timing belt runs in oil and must be replaced at the interval Ford sets. Ask for proof of the belt change and of regular oil changes with the specified grade.

Question 3

What should I check on an automatic Focus?

Accepted Answer

On the third generation, the PowerShift dual-clutch gearbox can judder or hesitate when pulling away. Drive it in slow traffic and ask about software updates or repairs; the fourth generation uses a conventional eight-speed automatic instead.

Question 4

Must the seller of a used Focus provide a contrôle technique?

Accepted Answer

Yes, once the Focus is more than four years old the seller must hand over a contrôle technique report less than six months old. Check it for listed faults that still need repairing.
