What is the difference between the old and new BMW 1 Series?

Until 2019 the 1 Series was rear-wheel drive with a longitudinal engine; the F40 generation moved to front-wheel drive. The newer car has more rear space, the older one the more traditional BMW handling.

Can a used BMW i3 enter low-emission zones in France?

Yes: as an electric car the i3 gets the green Crit'Air sticker, which opens every low-emission zone. Check the battery capacity and whether it is a range-extender (REx) version.

Which engine should I choose in a used BMW 1 Series in France?

For town driving, petrol versions get Crit'Air 1, which fares better in low-emission zones than the diesels' Crit'Air 2. The diesels make most sense for high motorway mileage.
