Question 1

Which Crit'Air sticker does a diesel BMW X5 get?

Accepted Answer

A Euro 5 or Euro 6 diesel X5 gets Crit'Air 2, while an older Euro 4 car falls to Crit'Air 3 and the first E53 diesels lower still. Low-emission zones restrict the higher numbers first, so check the class against where you drive.

Question 2

What should be checked on a BMW X5's air suspension?

Accepted Answer

Many X5s have self-levelling air suspension at the rear, and some on both axles. Look at the car after it has stood overnight: it should sit level, rise without a warning light and not sag at any corner.

Question 3

What should I know about a plug-in hybrid BMW X5?

Accepted Answer

The xDrive40e, 45e and 50e combine a petrol engine with a battery charged from the mains. Ask how it has been charged, check that the charging cable is with the car and compare the electric range with the figure when new. A hybrid that is never plugged in carries a heavy battery for little gain.

Question 4

Why is the carte grise expensive on a BMW X5?

Accepted Answer

The regional part of the carte grise is charged per fiscal horsepower, and a powerful X5 has many. An X5 imported from another country can also owe the French malus when it is registered in France for the first time.
