Question 1

What is the difference between a plug-in and a mild-hybrid X3?

Accepted Answer

The plug-in xDrive30e and 30e charge from a socket and can cover short journeys on electricity alone. The 48-volt mild hybrids only assist the engine when pulling away and accelerating, so they cost less to buy but save less fuel.

Question 2

How far does a BMW X3 xDrive30e go on electricity?

Accepted Answer

The G01-generation xDrive30e is rated at around 50 km in the WLTP cycle, and the later 30e goes further thanks to its larger battery. Real range drops in winter and at motorway speeds.

Question 3

Which Crit'Air sticker does a hybrid X3 get?

Accepted Answer

Plug-in and mild-hybrid petrol versions get Crit'Air 1, while a mild-hybrid diesel such as the 20d gets Crit'Air 2. Check the fuel on the carte grise before counting on access to a low-emission zone.

Question 4

Is the carte grise cheaper for a plug-in hybrid BMW X3?

Accepted Answer

Usually, because the fiscal horsepower used to price the carte grise includes the official CO2 figure, which is very low for a plug-in hybrid. The rate per fiscal horsepower still depends on the region where the car is registered.
