From €1,000 to €88,990, half under €16,990 · Typically 2016 with 139,350 km. Diesel remains the backbone of the used 3 Series in France, with the 320d the most common choice for long distances. Before buying, check the Crit'Air sticker: Euro 6 diesels get Crit'Air 2, older ones Crit'Air 3, which several city low-emission zones restrict.

Which BMW 320d years have the timing chain problem?

The N47 diesel in 318d and 320d models built roughly between 2007 and 2014 is the one known for timing chain wear. A rattle from the back of the engine at start-up is the warning sign. The B47 that replaced it during the F30's production run is far less affected.

Is a used BMW 3 Series diesel allowed in French low-emission zones?

It depends on its Crit'Air sticker: Euro 6 diesels, sold from 2015, get Crit'Air 2, while Euro 5 and older diesels get Crit'Air 3. Some cities restrict Crit'Air 3 cars in their low-emission zones, so check the rules where you drive.

Should I choose a BMW 320d or a 330d?

The four-cylinder 320d is cheaper to run and suits most drivers, while the six-cylinder 330d is smoother and much quicker for frequent long trips. The 330d usually comes with an automatic gearbox and costs more in tyres, brakes and servicing.
