Question 1

Is four-wheel drive worth it in the Aveyron?

Accepted Answer

On the Aubrac and the higher plateaux in winter, and on farm tracks, it helps. For Rodez, Millau and the main roads, a good set of winter tyres usually does more than the drivetrain, and a four-wheel drive costs more to run.

Question 2

Does Crit'Air matter in the Aveyron?

Accepted Answer

Less in the department itself than in big cities. It matters if you regularly drive into Toulouse or Montpellier, whose low-emission rules can restrict older cars, especially older diesels.

Question 3

How is the carte grise priced for a car bought in the Aveyron?

Accepted Answer

It is the car's fiscal horsepower multiplied by the Occitanie region's rate, plus fixed fees. The registration number stays with the car for life, so a car from another department keeps its plates.

Question 4

What should I watch for when buying privately in the Aveyron?

Accepted Answer

Ask for the certificat de situation administrative, which shows the car is free of any lien, and, for a car over four years old, a contrôle technique report less than six months old. Where you can, meet at the address shown on the carte grise.
