What manual gearbox does the Volvo V40 have?

The 2012 to 2019 V40 uses a six-speed manual gearbox that is precise and robust. Wear shows up mostly in the clutch and, on diesels, the dual-mass flywheel.

How can you tell if a manual Volvo V40's clutch is worn?

A worn clutch slips uphill or under full throttle in a high gear. Judder when pulling away or a rattle at idle points to the dual-mass flywheel, an expensive repair.

Volvo V40 manual or automatic: which should you choose?

The manual tends to use less fuel and is simpler to maintain, especially on diesels. The Geartronic automatic is more comfortable in town, but its gearbox oil changes are worth confirming.
