Question 1

What is the Tiguan Allspace?

Accepted Answer

A longer version of the second-generation Tiguan with a bigger boot and an optional third row of seats. In the current range its role has passed to a separate model, the Tayron.

Question 2

Which Volkswagen Tiguan engine should I choose?

Accepted Answer

The 2.0 TDI suits high annual mileage and towing, the TSI petrols suit shorter journeys, and the eHybrid only pays off if you charge it regularly. For cars registered from July 2007, engine size and CO2 also set the IUC.

Question 3

Is 4Motion necessary on a Volkswagen Tiguan?

Accepted Answer

On most Portuguese roads front-wheel drive is enough. 4Motion helps when towing, on wet climbs or on unsealed tracks, and its Haldex coupling needs the oil change set out in the service plan.

Question 4

What about the timing chain on early Volkswagen Tiguans?

Accepted Answer

The 1.4 TSI fitted to first-generation Tiguans can suffer from a stretched timing chain. Ask whether the chain and tensioner have been replaced and listen for a rattle on a cold start.
