What is a VW Polo Van?

It is a two-seat commercial version of the Polo, with the rear seats removed, a flat load floor and a partition behind the front seats. It is registered as a light goods vehicle rather than a passenger car.

Can I convert a VW Polo Van back into a five-seat car in Portugal?

It is possible but not simple: adding seats changes the vehicle's category, which needs an approved conversion and an inspection before the registration is updated. Budget for that if you are buying with this plan.

How often does a VW Polo Van go to the IPO?

More often than a passenger Polo, since it is registered as a light goods vehicle. Check the date and result of the last IPO, and when the next one is due, before agreeing a price.
