Question 1

Are many used Renaults in Faro former rental cars?

Accepted Answer

The Algarve's rental fleets are renewed often, and Clios and Captur models from them regularly reach the used market. They tend to be young and serviced on schedule but have had many drivers; the record at the Registo Automóvel shows whether a rental company owned the car.

Question 2

What does the Algarve climate do to a used Renault?

Accepted Answer

Strong sun fades paint and ages headlamp lenses, dashboards and rubber seals, while salty coastal air encourages corrosion underneath. Check that the air conditioning cools properly, as it works hard here for much of the year.

Question 3

Does a used Renault Zoe come with its battery?

Accepted Answer

Many earlier Zoes were sold with the battery on a monthly rental contract rather than owned outright. Ask which applies before buying, because a rented battery means taking over that contract.

Question 4

What paperwork applies when buying in Faro?

Accepted Answer

The same as anywhere in Portugal: the change of owner is registered at the Registo Automóvel and the buyer pays the IUC road tax every year. Cars old enough to need it must have a valid IPO inspection.
