Question 1

First or second-generation Captur?

Accepted Answer

The second generation, from 2019, is larger, better finished and offered as an E-Tech hybrid and plug-in hybrid. The first is cheaper and practical, and some trims have zip-off seat covers that can be washed.

Question 2

Is the Captur's 1.2 TCe petrol engine a risk?

Accepted Answer

Early 1.2 TCe engines in the first-generation Captur are known for high oil consumption, which can lead to serious engine damage. Check the oil level, ask how often it needs topping up, and look for records of any work on the engine.

Question 3

Does a Captur E-Tech hybrid make sense in Lisbon?

Accepted Answer

Yes, for city driving: the full hybrid runs on electric power at low speed and recovers energy in stop-start traffic, which is where it saves most fuel. The plug-in version needs regular charging, at home or on the Mobi.E network, to justify its higher price.

Question 4

What should I check on a Captur with the EDC gearbox?

Accepted Answer

The EDC is a dual-clutch automatic, and on a test drive it should pull away smoothly without judder or hesitation in slow traffic. Ask whether the gearbox oil has been changed, since jerky shifts are often the first sign of wear.
