Question 1

Is the Peugeot PureTech petrol engine a risk?

Accepted Answer

The 1.2 PureTech three-cylinder uses a timing belt that runs in engine oil, and on many cars it has worn before its scheduled interval. Ask for proof of when the belt was replaced and which oil was used. A car with a documented change is the safer buy.

Question 2

What is AdBlue on a Peugeot BlueHDi diesel?

Accepted Answer

Newer BlueHDi diesels inject AdBlue into the exhaust from a separate tank to cut emissions, and the tank needs topping up from time to time. Any warning about the AdBlue system should be resolved before purchase, as repairs to the tank or injector are not cheap.

Question 3

Does an electric e-208 or e-2008 make sense around Viseu?

Accepted Answer

It does if you can charge at home or at work, since public chargers are fewer away from the main towns. Being fully electric, it pays no IUC, and the battery warranty still remaining is worth checking.

Question 4

How is a used Peugeot transferred to me?

Accepted Answer

The change of owner is recorded at the Registo Automóvel; a dealer normally handles it, and in a private sale it can be done online or at a registry office. Before signing, check that the IPO inspection is valid and the IUC has been paid.
