Question 1

What should I check on a Peugeot 1.2 PureTech petrol?

Accepted Answer

This engine uses a timing belt that runs in oil, and some belts have worn early and shed debris. Ask for proof of belt inspections or replacement at the intervals Peugeot set, and check the oil has been changed with the specified grade.

Question 2

What does AdBlue mean on a Peugeot BlueHDi diesel?

Accepted Answer

BlueHDi diesels inject AdBlue into the exhaust to cut emissions, from a tank that is topped up separately. A warning about the AdBlue system or a countdown to a no-start is worth taking seriously, so watch the dashboard during the test drive.

Question 3

Do electric Peugeots pay IUC?

Accepted Answer

No. The e-208, e-2008 and other fully electric Peugeots are exempt from IUC in Portugal. Ask for a battery health report and check that the charging cable comes with the car.

Question 4

Is a Peugeot SW estate worth considering?

Accepted Answer

The 308 SW and 508 SW give a much longer boot than the hatchback or saloon for similar running costs. For families around Aveiro who carry bicycles or beach kit, the estate is often more practical than a taller SUV.
