Question 1

Is Opel's Easytronic a real automatic?

Accepted Answer

No. Easytronic is a manual gearbox whose clutch and gear changes are worked by an actuator, so it shifts with a pause and can lurch at low speed. A conventional torque-converter automatic is smoother and generally more durable.

Question 2

Does an Opel automatic need its gearbox oil changed?

Accepted Answer

Conventional automatics benefit from a fluid change even when the maker calls it a lifetime fill, especially on cars used mostly in town. Ask whether it has been done, and watch for hesitant or harsh shifts on the test drive.

Question 3

Do electric Opels count as automatics?

Accepted Answer

In practice, yes. The Corsa Electric, Mokka Electric and other battery models have a single-speed transmission and no clutch pedal, so they drive like an automatic.

Question 4

Is an automatic Opel easy to find in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

Manual gearboxes remain the more common choice in Portugal, so automatics make up a smaller part of the used market, particularly among older and cheaper cars. Newer models are more often automatic.
