Question 1

Which new SUVs can you buy in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

New SUVs are on sale from almost every brand, from compacts such as the Peugeot 2008, Ford Puma and Nissan Juke to large ones like the Land Rover Range Rover and Porsche Cayenne. Chinese brands such as BYD, Leapmotor and Xpeng also sell SUVs in Portugal.

Question 2

Does a new electric SUV pay ISV and IUC in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

No, a fully electric SUV is exempt from both ISV and IUC in Portugal. Combustion SUVs pay both on engine size and CO2, which weighs more on large and powerful SUVs, while plug-in hybrids can qualify for reduced ISV.

Question 3

Does a new SUV always have all-wheel drive?

Accepted Answer

No, most new compact and mid-size SUVs are front-wheel drive only, with all-wheel drive on the top versions or via an electric motor on the rear axle. Front-wheel drive is enough for town and road; for dirt tracks or snow, choose a 4x4 version.

Question 4

Is a new SUV worth it over a nearly new one?

Accepted Answer

A new SUV comes with the full factory warranty and the latest hybrid and electric powertrains. The trade-off is that it loses most value in its first years, which is when a nearly new one becomes cheaper.
