Question 1

Which new petrol cars are sold in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

New petrol cars are on sale in almost every segment, from the Dacia Sandero and Peugeot 208 to SUVs such as the Mazda CX-30 and Ford Puma, up to the Porsche 911 and Mazda MX-5. Many brands offer the same model as a petrol, hybrid or electric.

Question 2

Can you still buy a new manual car in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and most new cars with a manual gearbox are petrol, mainly city cars, compacts and small SUVs. In the larger segments and premium models, an automatic is almost always standard.

Question 3

What ISV and IUC does a new petrol car pay?

Accepted Answer

A new petrol car pays ISV once at first registration and IUC every year, both based on engine size and CO2 emissions. Small and mild hybrid engines pay less, and unlike diesel there is no IUC surcharge.

Question 4

Petrol, hybrid or diesel: which new car to choose?

Accepted Answer

A new petrol car is the simplest choice for low annual mileage or a mix of town and country roads. Drivers who spend a lot of time in town save more with a hybrid, while heavy motorway users with a large car can still find diesel.
