Question 1

What is the difference between a new hybrid and a plug-in hybrid?

Accepted Answer

A plug-in hybrid charges from a socket and covers short distances on electricity alone, while a full hybrid recharges its battery through braking and the petrol engine. A plug-in pays off for drivers who charge every day; a full hybrid needs no charger at all.

Question 2

How much does a new hybrid car cost in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

It depends mostly on the segment and the type of hybrid: a small full hybrid sits at the bottom of the range and a luxury plug-in SUV at the top. Within each model, the price climbs with power and trim level.

Question 3

Does a new hybrid car pay ISV and IUC in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

Yes, a new hybrid pays ISV at first registration and IUC every year, both based on engine size and CO2 emissions. Plug-in hybrids that meet the electric-range and emissions conditions pay only part of the ISV, which Portuguese list prices normally already include.

Question 4

Is a new hybrid car worth buying?

Accepted Answer

It makes most sense for drivers who spend a lot of time in town, where the electric motor saves the most, and who want the full factory warranty. A new car does lose more value in its first years, which matters less to someone who keeps it for a long time.
