Question 1

Does a new electric car pay ISV and IUC in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

No: a fully electric car is exempt from ISV when bought and from IUC every year. For companies, the VAT on the purchase can be deductible within a cost limit, and autonomous taxation is lighter than on combustion cars.

Question 2

How much does a new electric car cost in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

It runs from entry-level electric city cars to large luxury saloons and SUVs, with almost every segment in between. Within each model, the price rises mainly with battery size, power and all-wheel drive.

Question 3

What range does a new electric car have?

Accepted Answer

It varies widely between models and, within one model, between batteries: the larger-battery version goes further between charges. The official figure is measured on the WLTP cycle, and real range is usually lower on the motorway or in winter.

Question 4

Is a new electric car worth buying?

Accepted Answer

For drivers who charge at home or at work, a new electric car is cheap to run and pays neither ISV nor IUC. It comes with the full factory warranty and the battery usually carries its own, longer warranty, but a new car depreciates most in its first years.
