Question 1

Which new convertibles are sold in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

The choice runs from the Mazda MX-5, Mini Cabrio and Fiat 500 to the BMW 4 Series Convertible and M4 and the Mercedes CLE Cabriolet. At the top are the Porsche 911, the Mercedes-AMG SL and the Maserati GranCabrio, while the Volkswagen T-Roc Cabrio pairs a fabric roof with an SUV's high driving position.

Question 2

Are there new electric convertibles on sale?

Accepted Answer

Yes: the MG Cyberster is an electric roadster, and the Fiat 500 and Abarth 500 also come as electric cabrios. Like any fully electric car, they are exempt from ISV and IUC.

Question 3

How much ISV and IUC does a new convertible pay in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

A combustion convertible pays ISV at first registration and IUC every year, both based on engine size and CO2 emissions. A small-engined roadster pays little, while large-engined luxury cabriolets pay a good deal.

Question 4

Is a new convertible worth buying?

Accepted Answer

On a new convertible, the roof and its mechanism are covered by the factory warranty, which is reassuring for a part that is costly to repair. Luxury cabriolets, on the other hand, lose a lot of value in their first years.
