Question 1

Where can you see new car prices in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

Mycarro gathers the brands' official price lists, version by version, with a link to each manufacturer's site. Searching is free, and Mycarro sells no cars: you buy from the brand or its dealer.

Question 2

Is a new car's list price the final price in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

The list price is the official price the manufacturer publishes for each version. The final figure can change at the dealer with options, promotions and registration costs, so always ask for the full quote.

Question 3

What taxes does a new car pay in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

A new car pays ISV once, at first registration, and IUC every year, both based on engine size and CO2 emissions. Fully electric cars are exempt from both, and plug-in hybrids can qualify for reduced ISV.

Question 4

When does a new car need its first inspection in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

A new passenger car has its first IPO four years after registration. After that it is inspected every two years until it is eight years old, and every year from then on.

Question 5

Is it better to buy a new car or a nearly new one in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

A new car comes with the full factory warranty, the specification you choose and the three-year legal guarantee from a professional seller. On the other hand, it loses most value in its first years, which is when a nearly new car becomes cheaper.
