Which automatic gearbox does the Mini Cooper have?

Cars up to 2018 have a six-speed torque-converter Steptronic, while the Cooper and Cooper S from the 2018 facelift onwards use a seven-speed dual-clutch. The electric Cooper SE has a single-speed drive with no gearbox to worry about.

Is the Mini Cooper automatic gearbox reliable?

The later dual-clutch has a good record if its software is up to date; the older Steptronic on the R56 can shift harshly when its oil is old. Ask whether the gearbox oil has ever been changed.

Is an automatic Mini Cooper worth it in the city?

Yes, in Lisbon or Porto traffic an automatic Mini is far less tiring than a manual. The dual-clutch also shifts more quickly than the older Steptronic when driven briskly.
