Is it worth going to Lisbon to buy a Mercedes if I live in Santarém?

It can be, since the A1 puts the capital about an hour from much of the district. Before the trip, ask for photos of the service book and confirm the car is still for sale.

What should I check on a used Mercedes from the Ribatejo?

On a car that has run on farm or dirt tracks, inspect the underside, the sump guard and the suspension. A worn towbar shows it has pulled trailers or machinery.

How do I transfer a Mercedes bought in the Santarém district?

Registration goes through the Registo Automóvel, online or in person, as anywhere in Portugal. Before paying, check that the IPO inspection is current and that no liens or reservations are registered on the car.
