Which is the best diesel engine for the Mercedes Vito?

For loads and long runs, the rear-wheel-drive 2.1 and 2.0 have more torque and headroom than the Renault-sourced 1.6. The 1.6 is enough for urban deliveries with light loads.

Does the diesel Mercedes Vito need AdBlue?

Yes, Euro 6 diesel Vitos use AdBlue to cut nitrogen oxides, from a separate tank that has to be topped up periodically. Ignoring the AdBlue warning can eventually stop the engine from starting.

Does the particulate filter cause problems on a diesel Mercedes Vito?

The Vito's particulate filter regenerates while driving, so a van used only for short trips tends to clog it. For low mileage in town, the electric eVito may make more sense.
