Is the Mercedes GLA a real SUV?

It is a compact crossover based on the A-Class, with a raised body but no low-range gearing. It copes with gravel tracks and kerbs, not serious off-roading.

Is the Mercedes GLA SUV big enough for a family?

For two adults and two children it works, and the H247 from 2020 has noticeably more rear room than the X156. Families needing seven seats look at the GLB, its taller sibling.

Mercedes GLA or GLC: which SUV should I choose?

The GLA is shorter and suits town driving, with front-wheel drive on most versions. The GLC is a size up, always automatic and more often 4MATIC, built for long trips.

It is a road car, not an off-roader: even 4MATIC versions have modest ground clearance.
