What automatic gearbox does the Mercedes B-Class have?

The W245 offered the Autotronic CVT as an option, the W246 uses the seven-speed 7G-DCT dual-clutch, and the W247 the 7G-DCT or 8G-DCT depending on the engine. The B 250 e plug-in hybrid uses the 8G-DCT.

Is the Mercedes B-Class 7G-DCT gearbox reliable?

It usually lasts well when the gearbox oil is changed at the specified intervals. Jerky pull-aways, hesitation engaging reverse or judder when manoeuvring can point to clutch or mechatronic wear.

Is an automatic Mercedes B-Class good for town driving?

Yes, the automatic makes stop-start traffic far more relaxed. The B 250 e plug-in adds silent electric driving on short daily trips, provided you have somewhere to charge.

From €1,800 to €49,690, half under €24,500 · Typically 2021 with 82,105 km. The B-Class automatic changed with each generation: an optional Autotronic CVT in the W245, the 7G-DCT dual-clutch in the W246, and the 7G-DCT or 8G-DCT in the W247. A healthy dual-clutch is quick and smooth, but wear shows in slow manoeuvres.
