From €600 to €92,750, half under €24,900 · Typically 2020 with 98,000 km. The A-Class changed character over its generations: the first two were tall, double-floored compact MPVs, while the 2012 W176 and the 2018 W177 are premium hatchbacks. The W177 brought the MBUX system, a saloon version and the A 250 e plug-in hybrid.

Which Mercedes A-Class generation is best to buy used?

For most buyers the W177, sold since 2018, is the most balanced choice, with the MBUX system, better refinement and more driver assistance. The W176, built from 2012 to 2018, costs less and shares the hatchback shape, but its interior has aged faster.

Which engine should I choose in a Mercedes A-Class?

Drivers who cover a lot of motorway miles get the most from the 2.0 diesels in the A 200 d and A 220 d. For town driving, the petrol A 180 or A 200 avoids particulate filter worries, and the A 250 e suits anyone who can charge at home.

What are the common problems with the Mercedes A-Class?

On automatic versions the 7G-DCT dual-clutch gearbox can judder at low speed, so test it in traffic. On diesels used only in town, the particulate filter and the AdBlue system are the parts to check.
