How can I tell if a used manual Fiat needs a new clutch?

A used manual Fiat needs a clutch when it slips on hills or only bites at the very top of the pedal travel. On a Panda or 500 driven mostly in town, replacement comes round often and is worth factoring into the price.

Manual or Dualogic: which used Fiat should I buy?

A used manual Fiat is generally a safer buy than a Dualogic. The Dualogic robotised gearbox on the 500 and Punto has a hydraulic actuator known to fail, and the repair costs more than a clutch.

Is the manual Fiat Panda reliable?

The manual Fiat Panda has a reputation for being simple and tough, especially with the 1.2 petrol engine. Its gearbox gives little trouble beyond normal clutch wear.

At Fiat the manual gearbox is the norm across most of the range, from the 500 and Panda to the Tipo and the Doblò vans. It is cheaper to keep than the Dualogic robotised box, whose hydraulic actuator is a known failure on the 500 and Punto.
