Question 1

Which engines does the manual Fiat 500X have?

Accepted Answer

The manual Fiat 500X had the 1.6 E.torQ and 1.4 MultiAir petrol engines until 2018, then the three-cylinder 1.0 FireFly turbo, plus the 1.3 and 1.6 MultiJet diesels throughout. The diesels make sense for drivers who cover long distances.

Question 2

Is the Fiat 500X 1.4 MultiAir engine reliable?

Accepted Answer

The 500X's 1.4 MultiAir is a good engine, but the MultiAir system that works the valves is sensitive to oil quality and level. Insist on a record of oil changes with the lubricant Fiat specifies, and be wary of a rough idle or an engine warning light.

Question 3

What should I check on the clutch of a used manual Fiat 500X?

Accepted Answer

On a manual 500X, especially a diesel, make sure the clutch does not slip when accelerating in a high gear and that there is no judder pulling away, a sign of a worn dual-mass flywheel. Both repairs are expensive, so catch them before buying.
