Question 1

How does a Fiat 500 cope with Porto's cobbled streets?

Accepted Answer

It rides them firmly because of its short wheelbase, and years of cobbles wear suspension mounts, bushes and tyres. On a test drive over uneven paving, listen for knocks from the front and rear.

Question 2

Manual or Dualogic for Porto's hills?

Accepted Answer

The manual is the safer choice, being simple and cheap to maintain. The Dualogic automated gearbox can hesitate on steep hill starts and its actuator is expensive to repair, so test any example on a slope.

Question 3

Why check for damp in a used Fiat 500?

Accepted Answer

Porto's humid climate shows up worn door seals and, on the 500C, blocked roof drains that let water into the cabin and boot. Lift the mats and check for a musty smell or misted windows.

Question 4

Which Fiat 500 engine suits Porto?

Accepted Answer

For short trips the 1.2 petrol and the 1.0 mild hybrid sold from 2020 are simple and economical, while the TwinAir is livelier but uses more fuel than its rating. The electric 500e suits drivers who can charge at home or on the Mobi.E network.
