Question 1

Should I buy a 4x2 or a 4x4 Duster?

Accepted Answer

The 4x4 is worth it for dirt tracks, steep rural roads or beach access, where its ground clearance and traction count. For mostly road driving the 4x2 is lighter, cheaper to buy and uses less fuel. On a 4x4, look underneath for knocks from off-road use.

Question 2

Is the LPG Duster a good choice?

Accepted Answer

The bi-fuel versions run on LPG from the factory and keep a petrol tank as backup, which suits drivers who cover a lot of kilometres. Ask for the LPG system's service records, and bear in mind that LPG pumps are less widespread than petrol ones.

Question 3

Is the Duster a real off-roader?

Accepted Answer

It is a light SUV rather than a hard-core off-roader. The 4x4 versions handle gravel, mud and sand with confidence, but they have no low-range gearbox.

Question 4

Are Duster parts and servicing expensive?

Accepted Answer

No. The engines and many components come from the Renault group, so parts are widely available and any Renault or Dacia workshop can service it. That keeps running costs low compared with most SUVs.
