Question 1

Which Formentor engine suits me?

Accepted Answer

The 1.5 TSI petrol covers everyday driving well, and the TDI diesel suits long distances. The e-Hybrid makes sense if you can charge at home or at work. The VZ versions are the quickest but cost more in fuel, tax and wear.

Question 2

Is the Formentor e-Hybrid cheaper to run in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

Its low official CO2 brings the annual IUC down compared with the petrol versions. Real fuel savings depend on charging regularly; driven mostly on petrol, it is just a heavier car. Check that the charging cable is included and that the electric range is still reasonable.

Question 3

What should I check on the Formentor's DSG gearbox?

Accepted Answer

Most Formentors have a DSG dual-clutch automatic. On a test drive, pull away from standstill and creep in slow traffic: changes should be smooth, without jolts or hesitation. Ask whether the gearbox oil has been changed when the schedule required it.

Question 4

Is the Formentor four-wheel drive?

Accepted Answer

Only the more powerful versions have 4Drive all-wheel drive; the rest drive the front wheels. Four-wheel drive helps traction on wet roads but adds weight and consumption. Confirm in the advert which version you are looking at.
