Question 1

Which Citroën C4 generation should I look at?

Accepted Answer

The first C4 (2004–2010) is now an older, cheap car, while the second (2010–2018) is a conventional family hatchback with more modern engines. The current C4, launched in 2020, sits higher and is offered with petrol, diesel or fully electric power.

Question 2

Is the 1.2 PureTech engine in the Citroën C4 a risk?

Accepted Answer

The 1.2 PureTech three-cylinder fitted to many second- and third-generation C4s has a timing belt running in oil that can wear early and shed debris into the oil system. Ask for proof of belt inspections or replacement and of the correct oil grade.

Question 3

What taxes does an electric Citroën C4 pay in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

As a fully electric car, the ë-C4 pays no IUC, and an imported one pays no ISV. It charges at home or on the public Mobi.E network, so check that the charging cable comes with the car.

Question 4

Are the C4 Picasso and C4 Cactus the same car as the Citroën C4?

Accepted Answer

No. The C4 Picasso and Grand C4 Picasso are MPVs, renamed SpaceTourer in 2018, and the C4 Cactus is a separate model styled as a small crossover. They share some engines with the C4 but have their own bodies.
