Does the N20 engine in the BMW 3 Series 320i have problems?

N20 engines fitted to F30 320i and 328i models until around 2015 can suffer worn timing chain guides. A rattle on a cold start is the warning; ask for proof that the chain has been inspected or replaced.

Does a petrol BMW 3 Series pay less IUC than a diesel?

As a rule, yes, because petrol cars do not pay the additional charge applied to diesel. The final amount depends on engine size, CO2 emissions and the year of registration.

Which petrol BMW 3 Series is the best all-rounder?

The 320i and 330i with the two-litre B48 engine strike the best balance of performance, consumption and reliability. The three-cylinder B38 318i works well in town but is less smooth at low revs.
