BMW 2 Series 216d or 218d: which is better?

The 218d, with its 2.0-litre four-cylinder, is more relaxed on the motorway and with a full load. The three-cylinder 216d is enough for town use, especially in the Active Tourer.

Do diesel BMW 2 Series have timing chain problems?

The earliest diesel Coupés still used the N47 engine, known for timing chain wear. The B37 and B47 engines that replaced it have a much better record.

Is a diesel BMW 2 Series worth it for low mileage?

For short urban trips a diesel makes little sense, because the particulate filter needs longer drives to regenerate. For that use, a petrol or plug-in hybrid is usually the better choice.
