Is the BMW 1 Series good for city driving?

Yes: its compact size makes parking easy, and engines such as the 116d or the three-cylinder 118i are frugal in town. For city use, the optional automatic gearbox is worth looking for.

What is the difference between the three- and five-door BMW 1 Series?

The three-door (E81 and F21) has longer front doors and harder access to the rear seats. The five-door suits anyone carrying passengers and is the only body offered since the F40.

Is the BMW 1 Series a supermini?

No, the 1 Series is a C-segment hatchback, the class of the Golf and the Mercedes A-Class. It sits between a supermini and a mid-size family car, with a boot that suits a small family.
