Which engine is best for a manual Audi A1?

The three-cylinder 1.0 TFSI, offered since 2015 and throughout the second generation, combines low fuel use with simple maintenance. The 1.4 TFSI of early A1s goes well, but on 2010 to 2012 cars the timing chain deserves attention.

Why choose a manual Audi A1 over the S tronic?

A manual avoids the known faults of the seven-speed dry-clutch S tronic, whose mechatronic unit is expensive to repair. On the other hand, the most powerful engines rarely come with a manual.

Is there a diesel Audi A1 with a manual gearbox?

Yes, the first-generation diesels, the 1.4 TDI, 1.6 TDI and 2.0 TDI, were sold mostly with a manual. The second generation, from 2018 onwards, dropped diesel engines.
